When Donald Lamar met Kyra Solomon in 2018, she was at a crossroads all too familiar to small business owners: to persevere or change direction. Lamar — now area director of the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Morehouse College — recognized in Solomon a tenacity that has come to define her career.
In 2007, Kyra Solomon was an artist-in-residence in Maryland when she was presented with the opportunity to go into business with a family member. She took the risk — relocating to Atlanta and becoming a licensed real estate agent.
Less than a year later, the financial crisis of 2008 hit the real estate industry. But that period of economic uncertainty only strengthened her resolve to succeed. In 2016, Solomon went into business on her own and started The Daley Real Estate Group, focused on residential and commercial sales and tenant representation.
Solomon met Donald Lamar at a U.S. Small Business Administration course where he was teaching for 8(a) certifications for governmental contracting. Impressed by his presentation, Solomon “hunted Donald down,” initiating a long-term collaboration that has spanned her business ventures.
Having gone into real estate during a financial crisis, Solomon had no qualms about looking for growth opportunities during the pandemic. With Lamar’s help, she and her business partners began to pursue a major company acquisition. She admits that she “tends to go towards the fire.”

They say remodels are stressful, but working with Aldo and his crew was pure pleasure. My hall bathroom was water damaged and there was a lot to tear out and rebuild. They rebuilt it better than ever and brought everything up to code. They’re meticulous and efficient and take care to make it look good, too. They kept the house clean while they worked, answered all my questions, went over all the options, took a trip out to the tile factory, it’s a real full service experience. I love my new bathroom and highly recommend BBRS.
